La mobilité des produits et des techniques céramiques en Méditerranée Orientale du IIe siècle avant J.-C. à l'époque claudienne. Le cas des céramiques fines d'après les contextes d'habitats d'Alexandrie (Égypte)

Cette étude présente des assemblages de céramiques fines de contextes archéologiques de l’habitat d’Alexandrie. Elle cherche à déterminer et à évaluer les importations (quantité, identité technique et culturelle) en regard des productions locales, et à connaître l’évolution de leur présence. Elle fait donc le point sur les échanges entre Alexandrie et le reste de la Méditerranée, en précisant, selon la chronologie, l’apport en quantité et en qualité des centres producteurs qui exportent à longue distance. Elle retrace l’évolution technologique et culturelle des produits et confronte les données avec certains facteurs économiques. L’étude vise aussi à comprendre les facteurs d’évolution de la production qu’ils soient culturels (évolution des formes de vases, adaptation, rejet) ou technologiques (revêtements noirs, rouges, ou luisants). Elle s’appuie sur l’examen des faciès céramiques d’autres ensembles méditerranéens, afin de définir les caractères propres au faciès alexandrin.

The mobility of ceramic products and techniques in the eastern Mediterranean from the 2nd century BCE to the Claudian era: the case of fine ceramics from residential contexts in Alexandria, Egypt.

This study presents collections of fine ceramic ware from archaeological excavations of Alexandrian residential quarters. The aim is to determine and evaluate the imports (quantity, technical and cultural identity) as compared to local products, and to understand the evolution of their presence. We will review the networks of exchange between Alexandria and the rest of the Mediterranean, pointing out, according to chronology, the supply in quantity and quality of the production centres involved in long distance export. We will retrace the technological and cultural evolution of the products and set this data against certain economic factors. The study also aims to comprehend factors in the evolution of the production, whether cultural (development of vase shape, adaptations, rejections) or technological (black, red or gloss coatings). We will examine the ceramic facies of other Mediterranean ensembles in order to define the particular characteristics of the Alexandrian facies.
