Les travaux et les fouilles réalisés à Balat depuis près de quarante ans par Ahmed Fakhry, puis par l’Ifao, dans le palais des gouverneurs et dans la nécropole ont mis au jour un des sites majeurs de l’implantation égyptienne aux marges du royaume à la fin de l’Ancien Empire. La richesse et l’aspect souvent fragmentaire et en apparence parfois contradictoire de cette documentation épigraphique ont suscité nombre d’interrogations quant à l’identité des gouverneurs, leur nombre et leur datation. La présente contribution examine l’ensemble du dossier et propose une généalogie et une chronologie nouvelles des gouverneurs de Balat.

The researches and the excavations carried out in Balat for almost forty years by Ahmed Fakhry, then by the Ifao, in the palace of the governors and in the necropolis, brought to light one of the major sites of the Egyptian presence in the margins of the territory of the Old Kingdom. The abundance and the often fragmentary aspect and sometimes seemingly contradictory of this epigraphic documentation raised various issues as for the identity of the governors, their number and dating. The present article studies all data and proposes a new genealogy and chronology of the governors of Balat.
