Les Égyptiens n’ont jamais exposé de façon dogmatique les diverses significations symboliques qu’ils prêtaient à la tombe. C’est la raison pour laquelle la théorie qui suppose un lien sémantique entre les Textes des pyramides et les chambres souterraines pour conclure à une étroite correspondance entre les salles et la cosmographie est ici passée au crible. De nombreux arguments permettent d’en réfuter les prémisses : il n’y a aucune relation entre le contenu des textes et la fonction spécifique des espaces architecturaux. À la place de cette théorie, on suggère que les Textes des pyramides étaient organisés en groupes de formules relatives à un même thème, répartis de façon plus ou moins aléatoire entre la chambre du sarcophage et l’antichambre selon leur utilisation originelle, suivant largement le modèle déjà établi pour Ounas.

While the Egyptians attributed several symbolic meanings to the tomb in general, it is shown that they did not do so in a dogmatic fashion. Seen in this light, the influential theory holding for an immediate, semantic relationship between Pyramid Texts and the subterranean chambers, to yield an articulated correspondence between individual rooms and cosmographic locales, is evaluated in detail. Through consultation of a wider range of evidence, the premise of the theory is refuted; there is not a relationship between textual content and an individuated meaning of architectural space. In place of the theory, it is proposed that the Pyramid Texts were organized into distinguishable groups of thematically related texts, loosely divided between the sarcophagus chamber and antechamber according to original structure of performance, and largely conforming to the precedent established in the pyramid of Unis.
