La ville de Térénouthis, sur l’actuel site archéologique de Kôm Abou Billou, est connue par la documentation papyrologique, mais n’a jamais été fouillée. En revanche, la nécropole attenante a vu plusieurs vagues d’opérations archéologiques, conduisant à la mise au jour de milliers de tombes inégalement réparties entre l’Ancien Empire et l’époque médiévale. Celles-ci ont été très peu publiées et restent mal connues. Cet article se propose de faire le point sur les données issues des archives des fouilles anciennes et d’amorcer une réinterprétation des informations disponibles, principalement en ce qui concerne l’organisation, la datation et la typologie des tombes de la nécropole.

The ancient city of Terenouthis, on the modern site of Kom Abou Bellou, is known for its papyrological documents, but was never fully excavated. However, the cemetery has seen several waves of archaeological activity over the years leading to the discovery of thousands of graves from the Old Kingdom to the Middle Ages. This cemetery is subsequently very badly published and thus remains difficult to understand in detail. The aim of this paper is to bring together what information there is available from archives of old excavations in an attempt to initiate a re-interpretation of the available data, with regard to the organization, dating and typology of the tombs from the cemetery.
