En janvier 2009 a été découverte dans l’enceinte du palais des gouverneurs à Ayn Asil l’inhumation d’un nourrisson portant une parure. Sur les six autres inhumations en contexte d’habitat mises au jour précédemment, cinq sont géographiquement rapprochées et soulèvent la question de l’existence d’un lieu consacré à l’ensevelissement des nourrissons, lieu d’abord étendu sur une zone importante, puis restreint au fur et à mesure des extensions du palais, peut-être au nord de l’enclos sud-ouest. À partir de la fin de l’Ancien Empire, l’installation d’un nouveau secteur d’habitat dans la frange ouest du palais a pu conduire les habitants à exploiter, pour l’ensevelissement des nourrissons, une nouvelle zone, sise précisément dans les ruines de la structure palatiale, ce dont témoignerait l’inhumation trouvée cette année.

In January 2009 in Ayn Asil, the burial of a newborn child wearing a piece of finery was discovered inside the governor’s palace. Of the six burials in urban context found in the city until then, five are geographically close and raise the question of the existence of an area dedicated to newborn burials, a zone which would have been quite large at first, then restricted following the palace extensions, maybe to the North of the southwest enclosure. From the end of the Old Kingdom, the development of a new urban sector in the West part of the palace might have led the population to use a new zone for baby’s burials located exactly in the ruins of the palace, something that the burial found this year might well show.
