Les deux blocs appartiennent probablement à la même porte et portent un programme décoratif inhabituel pour des portes. La décoration du linteau combine une variation unique de la scène de la « pesée du cœur » connue du Jugement des morts (Livre des Morts, chapitre 125) avec la soumission de Seth devant Osiris, tandis que le montant contient une représentation d’Horus-Behedeti tenant une lance. Les thèmes généraux de la décoration de la porte sont donc « la justification », « la vérification de l’exemption du délit à la porte » et « la destruction du mal ». Comme le précise l’article, la porte de Philæ pourrait avoir été le lieu où les prêtres faisaient une déclaration de pureté dans le cadre de leur initiation ou renouvelaient leur pureté cultuelle avant d’entrer dans le temple.

Publication of a lintel and fragment of a door jamb from the temples of Philae. Both blocks probably belong to the same door and carry an unusual decorative program for doors. The decoration of the lintel combines a unique variation of the ‘weighing of the heart’ scene known from the Final Judgement of the Dead (Book of the Dead Spell 125) with the subjugation of Seth before Osiris, while the jamb depicts Horus Behedety with a spear. The general themes of the door decoration are thus ‘justification,’ ‘verifying righteousness at the door,’ and ‘destruction of evil.’ As the article explains, the gate of Philae could have been the place where the priests made a declaration of purity as part of their initiation or renewed their cultic purity before entering the temple.
