Dans cette contribution, notre objectif est d’analyser la transmission de certaines croyances et d’idées, parfois réelles, parfois fantastiques, de l’Antiquité à la géographie arabo-musulmane. Nous partirons de l’analyse textuelle des descriptions animalières et de leurs merveilles dans certains passages de Pline, Élien et Aristote, ainsi que d’autres œuvres appartenant aux géographes arabes du Moyen Âge.

In this contribution, our objective is to analyse the transmission of certain beliefs and ideas, sometimes real and sometimes fantasy, from Antiquity to the Arabic-Islamic geography. We will start off by the textual analysis of the descriptions of animals and their wonders in certain passages from Pliny, Aelian, and Aristotle, as well as other works belonging to Arabic geographers from the Middle Ages.
