IFAO

Building on the immense success of our recent Papyrology Workshop (Papyrology in Dialogue, Ifao, 5-6 October 2025) and the Institut Français d'Archéologie Orientale’s (Ifao) long-standing commitment to supporting papyrological studies, we are pleased to announce the launch of the Ifao Papyrology Monthly Seminar. This seminar is the first of its kind to integrate the study of the three primary ancient languages of Egyptian papyri—Greek, Coptic, and Arabic—offering a unique platform for specialized research and cross-disciplinary dialogue.

Seminar Leadership

The program is led by three distinguished experts:

• Dr. Laura Aguer – Greek Papyrology
• Dr. Ahmed Nakshara – Coptic Papyrology
• Prof. Khaled Younes – Arabic Papyrology

Seminar Structure & Methodology

The seminar operates on a monthly basis, designed to provide both intensive specialization and collective academic exchange:

1. Specialized Closed Sessions (14:00-17:00):

Each expert will lead a 3-hour intensive session for their specific language group. These sessions run in parallel and are strictly for the selected participants. The focus will be on:

• Developing advanced reading and deciphering skills.
• Mastering research tools and scholarly publication methods.
• Original Research: Participants will work directly on unpublished texts, aiming to produce scholarly publications as a direct outcome of the seminar.
1. Public Lectures (18:00):

Following the closed sessions, a public lecture will be held featuring the three instructors, their teams, and the general audience. The lecture will also be live-streamed.

• Speakers: May include the lead instructors, seminar participants, or distinguished Egyptian and international guests.
• Language Policy: Lectures by Egyptian speakers will be held in Arabic, while lectures by international guests will be in English.

Admission Requirements

To maintain the high academic standard of the seminar, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Language Proficiency:

• Applicants must demonstrate a good command of the language of the seminar track to which they are applying (Greek, Coptic, or Arabic).
• Applicants must demonstrate a good command of English, as both the reading materials and the final publication will be in English.

• Academic Level: Open to advanced MA students, PhD candidates, and researchers in relevant fields.
• Commitment: Applicants must commit to the monthly schedule and the research goals of the seminar.

• Seminar Launch: The first seminar will take place in May and will be held on a monthly basis thereafter.

إعلان عن فتح باب التقديم: سيمنار البردي بالمعهد الفرنسي للآثار الشرقية (Ifao)

منهج متكامل لدراسة البرديات اليونانية والقبطية والعربية

بناءً على النجاح الباهر الذي حققته ورشة عمل البردي الأخيرة ( Papyrology in Dialogue, Ifao, 5-6 October 2025، وفي إطار الدور الريادي الذي يقوم به المعهد الفرنسي للآثار الشرقية (Ifao) في دعم دراسات البردي وتوفير بيئة علمية خصبة للباحثين في هذا المجال، يسعدنا أن نعلن عن إطلاق "سيمنار البردي بالمعهد الفرنسي للآثار الشرقية بالقاهرة

 يُعد هذا السيمنار الأول من نوعه الذي يدمج بين اللغات الثلاث القديمة (اليونانية، والقبطية، والعربية)، مما فتح آفاقًا جديدة للبحث البيني وتعزيز التبادل المعرفي.

إشراف وإدارة السيمنار

يقوم على إدارة السيمنار نخبة من المتخصصين:

د. لورا أجور – متخصص البردي اليوناني.

د. أحمد نقشارة – متخصص البردي القبطي.

د. خالد يونس – متخصص البردي العربي.

نظام وإدارة السيمنار

يُعقد السيمنار بنظام مرة واحدة شهرياً، وفق الهيكلية التالية:

الجلسات المغلقة (الساعة الثانية ظهرا – الساعة الخامسة عصرا):

يقوم كل مسؤول لغة بإدارة سيمنار متخصص لمجموعته لمدة ٣ ساعات متواصلة. تُعقد الجلسات للمجموعات الثلاث بشكل متوازٍ، وتركز على:

تطوير مهارات قراءة النصوص القديمة وفك رموزها.

إتقان استخدام أدوات البحث الرقمية والمنهجية في علم البردي.

الجانب التطبيقي: العمل على نشر نصوص أصلية غير منشورة، ليكون النشر العلمي أحد المخرجات الأساسية للسيمنار.

المحاضرة العامة (الساعة السادسة مساءً):

في ختام اليوم، تُعقد محاضرة عامة تجمع المدربين الثلاثة وفرق عملهم مع الجمهور.

المحاضرون: قد يكون المحاضر أحد المدربين، أو أحد المتدربين المتميزين، أو ضيفاً زائراً (مصرياً أو أجنبياً).

لغة المحاضرة: تكون اللغة العربية في حال كان المحاضر مصرياً، واللغة الإنجليزية في حال كان المحاضر أجنبياً.

شروط الانضمام

إتقان اللغة: يُشترط في المتقدّم إتقان اللغة الأصلية الخاصة بمسار السيمنار الذي يرغب في الالتحاق به (اليونانية أو القبطية أو العربية). كما يُعدّ إتقان اللغة الإنجليزية شرطًا أساسيًا، نظرًا لأن معظم المواد العلمية وأعمال النشر ستكون باللغة الإنجليزية.

المستوى الأكاديمي: التقديم مفتوح لطلاب الماجستير والدكتوراه والباحثين المتخصصين.

التعهد بحضور الجلسات الشهرية والمشاركة الفعالة في مخرجات البحث والنشر.
