Rings of the Lord

In the framework of the PredicMO programme’s summer school at the IFao in Cairo, a keynote lecture, open to the public, will be given by Jakob Skovgaard-Petersen, a lecturer in Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Copenhagen. The lecture is entitled “Rings of the Lord” and will take place at IFAO on Sunday 11 October 2026 at 6.00 pm in the IFAO conference room.
Jakob Skovgaard-Petersen is a lecturer in Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Copenhagen. His research focuses on contemporary Islam in the Arab world, particularly on the emergence of a modern public sphere and the role of Islam in Arab television, for example in the long-running television serials broadcast during Ramadan. Another area of interest concerns the role of Sunni ulama in Arab states, societies and the media, as well as religious institutions such as the madrasa. A third area of research focuses on the interpretation of the life of the Prophet Muhammad in both Muslim and non-Muslim traditions.
