Mamlukisation of the Mamluk Sultanate II Historiography, Political Order and State Formation in 15th-Century Egypt and Syria

In November 2021 (November, 28-30) the MMS-II team will organize its closing conference to present the main results from its research and to reach out to the wider academic community. This three-day conference will be organized in Cairo, Egypt, to maximize the potential involvement of colleagues and students from the MENA region. It will consist of (closed) paper sessions with respondents and presentations of MMS-II research results. There will also be a public MMS-II lecture and a public keynote. We will work together with international academic partners in Cairo (AUC, IFAO, NVIC) for this closing conference’s organization.
The first conference day (28 November) will take place at IFAO (palais Mounira) and will be concluded with a public lecture about the MMS-II project by Professor Jo Van Steenbergen (UGent).
The second conference day (29 November) will take place at AUC (Tahrir campus) and will be concluded with a keynote lecture by Professor Konrad Hirschler (Universität Hamburg/Center for the Study of Manuscript Cultures)
The third conference day (30 November) will take place at the NVIC (Zamalek) and will be concluded with a general closing session.
MMS-II research results will be presented by Mustafa Banister, Kenneth Goudie, Zacharie Mochtarie de Pierrepont, Daniel Mahoney, Rihab Ben Othmen.
The respondents for the paper sessions will be Malika Dekkiche (UAntwerpen), Amina Elbendary (AUC), Albrecht Fuess (UMarburg), Julien Loiseau (université Aix-Marseille) and Sarah Savant (AKU, London).
المؤتمر الختامي
سيقوم فريق MMS-II البحثي في شهر نوفمبر من سنة 2021 بتنظيم المؤتمر الختامي للمشروع لتقديم النتائج الأساسية لأبحاثهم والتواصل مع المجتمع الأكاديمي. وسيقام المؤتمرعلى ثلاثة أيام في مدينة القاهرة (مصر) بهدف تسهيل مشاركة الباحثين والطلبة من منطقتي الشرق الأوسط وشمالي أفريقيا. ويتألف المؤتمر من جلسات لتقديم الأوراق البحثية، وجلسات لتقديم نتائج المشروع، ومحاضرة رئيسية. وسيتم تنظيمه مع شركاء أكاديميين دوليين (المعهد الفرنسي للآثار الشرقية في القاهرة، والجامعة الأمريكية في القاهرة، والمعهد الهولندى الفلمنكى بالقاهرة).
سيعقد اليوم الأول للمؤتمر (28 نوفمبر) في IFAO (في قصر المنيرة (le Palais Mounira) وسيختتم بمحاضرة عامة حول مشروع MMS-II يلقيها البروفيسور Jo Van Steenbergen. سيعقد يوم المؤتمر الثاني (29 نوفمبر) في الجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة (حرم التحرير) وسيختتم بمحاضرة رئيسية يلقيها البروفيسور Konrad Hirschler (جامعة هامبورغ/مركز دراسة الثقافات المخطوطة – Universität Hamburg/Center for the Study of Manuscript Cultures). سيعقد اليوم الثالث للمؤتمر (30 نوفمبر) بمقر NVIC (الزمالك) ويختتم بجلسة ختامية عامة.
