The Embassy of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine and Institut français d'archéologie orientale (Ifao) organize a joint lecture by Dr. Katarína Arias Kytnarová on "Archaelogical evidence of funerary rituals - the view from Abusir" and Dr. Olena Romanova on "The adoration gesture in the Ancient Egypt during Old Kingdom and the First Intermediate Period".
The lecture will take place at the Ifao, Thursday October 10th at 6 p.m and is open to the public in the limit of available places.
Katarína Arias Kytnarová has been working as a research scholar at the Czech Institute of Egyptology in Prague since 2007. She specializes in ancient Egyptian material culture, with a focus on the pottery of the Third Millennium B.C.. She is also interested in the traditions of Late Antique art in the early Islamic times (M.A. in Egyptology, Classical Archaeology and Islamic Studies). Besides the research,she teaches select topics in Bachelor and Master Programs at the Faculty of Art, Charles University.
Dr. Olena Romanova is the first Egyptologist, who prepared and defended her PHd thesis in independent Ukraine. For decades, she worked at A. Yu. Krymskyi Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, concentrating on the problems of the social history and funerary culture of ancient Egypt during the Old Kingdom and the First Intermediate Period. Her academic interests also include the textual and visual self-presentation of person during the Old Kingdom; and the personal dimension of the Egyptian religion. Olena is the author of first Ukrainian translations of twenty five Egyptian autobiographies into Ukrainian, as well as a monographic study on the concept of the righteous person in ancient Egypt. She also studies the history of Egyptology, with a particular focus on the impact of political ideologies on the development of this discipline. From 2021 to 2023, she taught the first Ukrainian lecturing course “Introduction to Egyptology” for the students of history (bachelors), in the National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy. From 2022 she is the visiting scholar of the Institut für Altertumswissenschaften-Ägyptologie, Johannes-Guttenberg-Universität, Mainz.
