The ESPACES D’ECRITURE study-days will focus on the making of the written product and its deployment in space, particularly when moving from one graphic space to another (from the cursive manuscript to the hieroglyphic wall surface for example).

Asking a new series of questions on Egyptian scripturality, this workshop is following on the first session held in 2019 on “Graphic Registers”, which aimed in particular to identify the semiotic values associated to the various scripts and their visual aspect, according to their context, which fully participate in the meaning of a text and its reception, beyond the linguistic content alone.

Using this first base, in 2021 the reflection will turn towards the procedures and practices of accommodation of the written product, particularly in space, especially in the cases of the circulation of the same textual material, from one graphic register to another, from one written space to another, through, once again, a range of study-cases - mythological papyrus; monumentalized, hymnized and poetized historical narratives; funerary and ritual books on walls, etc. The study of which will provide the basis for a theoretical approach.

The participants are therefore invited to address these issues through their corpus(es) of studies.

Les journées ESPACES D’ÉCRITURE porteront sur la fabrique du produit écrit et de son déploiement dans l’espace, notamment lors du passage d’un espace graphique à un autre (du manuscrit cursif à la surface pariétale hiéroglyphique par exemple). Posant une nouvelle série de questions sur la scripturalité égyptienne, elle prend le relais des premières journées d’étude sur les « Registres graphiques », qui visaient notamment à recenser les valeurs sémiotiques associées à l’apparence des différents scripts employés, selon leur contexte, qui participent pleinement à la signification d’un texte et à sa réception, au-delà du seul contenu linguistique. En utilisant ce premier socle, la réflexion s’oriente en 2021 vers les procédures et les pratiques d’accommodation du produit écrit, en particulier dans l’espace, notamment dans les cas de la circulation d’une même matière textuelle, d’un registre graphique à un autre, d’un espace écrit à un autre, au travers, là encore, d’un éventail de cas pratiques – papyrus mythologiques ; récits historiques monumentalisés, hymnisés et poétisés ; livres funéraires et rituels « pariétaux », etc. – dont l’étude permettra d’asseoir une démarche théorique. Les participants sont donc invités à traiter ces questions à travers leur(s) corpus d’études.
