A — Requests for reproduction of texts and/or images published by the IFAO

N.B. – Since its foundation the IFAO has printed two types of work: its own publications (generated by the IFAO) and publications issued by other Egyptian scholarly institutions, such as the Egyptian Antiquities Service (Annales du Service des Antiquités d’Égypte, Catalogue général du musée du Caire, Fouilles à Saqqarah, etc.).

Requests for reproductions of images (photographs, drawings, maps, plates etc.) appearing in works edited and published by the IFAO should be addressed to the Archives and Collections Department of the IFAO by filling in the form below.

The IFAO cannot accept requests for texts and images appearing in works published by other Egyptian scholarly institutions.

B — Requests concerning documents held in the Archives and Collections Department of the IFAO

The researcher should fill in the request form above specifying whether study access (without publication) or publication of the document is required. A reply by email, either positive or negative, will be sent to the author of the request within fifteen days. In the case of a positive response, the Department will contact the researcher to clarify the request and ascertain means of any eventual payment and/or delivery. If the document is unpublished and the researcher would like to publish it, see paragraph below “C - Request for publication of an unpublished document”.

The heading “Purpose” is particularly important for consideration of any request. A reproduction can be used solely for study, for printed publication (article or book), for exhibition, as part of a poster at a scientific meeting, for a conference etc. For printed publication, please specify the title, the review, the collection etc., as well as the format of the published image (cover, full page, half page, quarter page etc.). According to the use that will be made of the reproduction (study or publication), the applicant may be required to pay reproduction rights and/or reuse rights; for more details, see . These terms and conditions will be explained in the email he will receive after completing his application.

The applicant agrees to identify the reproduction with a caption that will include the mention © Ifao followed by the name of the producer, which will be provided by the Archives and Collections Department.

This authorization will be delivered in purposes of study only. Any later uses of documents above-mentioned in a publication has to be submitted for authorization in a separate demand using this form with the relevant option.

The authorization of publication will be only granted for elements described above and indicated destination. The mention of the copyright has to accompany each of the elements ; it will be an ownership of the Ifao. In any case, documents or photos can not be given or sold to a third party.

The obtaining of documents is subjected to the pre-payment of service-fees (if it is the case) ; the amount of these fees will be communicated by e-mail before the execution of any order.





C — Request for publication of a document 

If the researcher wishes to publish a previously unpublished document, he/she should fills out the request form for the scientific publication of archives or collections, which can be downloaded from the tab Bordereaux du service of the website, then sends it back to the Archives and Collections Department: .

The request for publication rights will be examined by the Collections Committee. The applicant will be informed of the Committee’s decision within a reasonable time period. If authorisation is granted, the applicant will receive a contract specifying the terms and conditions by email. Authorisation is granted for a period of five years: this period may be renewed on condition that a report is sent to the curator of the Archives and Collections Department, who will transmit the request to the Collections Committee.

Please note that the holder of the authorisation for scientific publication may not transfer this right to a third party without prior authorisation being requested from the Archives and Collections Department.
