Akhet Seminar on current developments and methods in Ancient Egyptian history and archaeology
Call for applications

Langue : anglais.

Egyptology, or study of the Pharaonic society, emerged two centuries ago, and developed thanks to the work of historians and archaeologists. But since the nineteenth century, the ways of making historical and archaeological research evolved. During the last decades in particular, new approaches and new technologies gave new ways of collecting data and of questioning them. These evolutions of history and archaeology naturally concerned also Egyptology.

During this 2024-2025 year, the Institut Français d’Archéologie Orientale proposes, for the third time, a yearlong seminar that aims to give to the audience an idea of the current developments and methods in Ancient Egyptian history and archaeology and of their contribution. This year, greater attention will be paid to the research process, from the choice of a scientific problem and of a methodological approach to the publication.

This seminar will take place mostly in English and in fourteen sessions: two Mondays a month in average, from 10.30 to 12.30 AM, from October 14th. It will be hosted at the IFAO in Cairo. We also hope to organize one or two visits of archaeological sites.

We open this seminar to an Egyptian audience as a priority, more specifically to people that are working at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and are currently working on a research project. The applicants should master English.
If you are interested, please fill up the application form at the following link (click here)
