Egyptian Border-Posts (khetem) during the New Kingdom: Location, Function, Administration

During the New Kingdom, border-posts (khetem in Egyptian), punctuated the Egyptian borders. The best known of them are Tjaru, Wadj-wr, Tjeku and Senmut. These regional centers, each with its own administration headed by an "overseer of the khetem", had both security, economic and symbolic functions. The study of the location and functions of these khetem allows for a better understanding of the nature, organisation and perception of the Egyptian border areas during the New Kingdom.
