In the framework of the international conference "Signatures and Seals. Identification and validation marks in the Medieval Near East", organised by Jean-Charles Ducène and Julie Marchand, Dr. Behrens Abouseif (University of London) is giving a lecture entitled "Reflections on craftsmen’s signatures in the Mamluk period" at 6 pm, Sunday 19 October 2025.
The lecture is public, and free to attend within the limit of available places.

Dans le cadre du Colloque international « SignEt : signatures et estampilles, Marques d’identification et de validation dans le Proche-Orient Médiéval », organisée par Jean-Charles Ducène et Julie Marchand, Dr. Behrens Abouseif (Université de Londres) donnera une conférence intitulée « Reflections on craftsmen’s signatures in the Mamluk period », le dimanche 19 octobre 2025 à 18 heures.
La conférence est publique et gratuite dans la limite des places disponibles.

Doris Behrens-Abouseif is a Professor emeritus at the School of Oriental and African Studies-University of London. Her list of publications covers a wide range of subjects from the early period to the 19th century with focus on Egypt and Syria: The history of Islamic architecture and decorative arts, urbanism, waqf (pious endowments), Islamic cultural history, concepts of aesthetics and Orientalism. She is currently working on a book about Mamluk libraries, scribes and book markets.
