In the framework of 'Religions and Heritage' Lectures organized by the Italian Archeological Center and Instituto italiano di cultura Cairo, Camille Rouxpetel, PI of the 'ChrIs-cross' ERC project will give a talk entitled : 'Restoring the Holy Places under the Mamluk Sultanate' at the Italian Archeological Center (Tahrir), Wednesday November 6^th at 6 pm.

Abstract :

The restoration of the Holy Places raises several economic, religious and legal questions. A few documents in the archives of the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land in Jerusalem trace the history of some of these restorations in Jerusalem and Bethlehem. The authorisations requested by the Custodian from the Sultan and the Cadis reflect the status of the Franciscans who settled in the heart of the Mamluk Sultanate at the beginning of the fourteenth century, when the modalities of restoration affected both the Mediterranean trade between the Islamic East and the Christian West and the local relations between the various actors of Middle Eastern society.

نبذة عن المحاضرة

لطالما كان ترميم دور العبادة يثير العديد من القضايا الإقتصادية، الدينية و القانونية. تتبع بعض الوثائق الأثرية المحفوظة بأرشيف الكنيسة الفرنسيسكانية بألاراضي المقدسة تاريخ بعض عمليات الترميم بمدينتي بيت المقدس و بيت لحم. و من خلال دراسة ما ذكر بالوثائق من طلبات التصاريح بالعمل يتضح لنا وضع الفرنسيسكان و مدى إختلاطهم بالبلاط الملكي لسلطان المماليك في بداية القرن الرابع عشر. حيث كان لعمليات الترميم تأثير على حركة التجارة في حوض البحر المتوسط بين دول المشرق الإسلامي و الغرب المسيحي بالإضافة الى دورها في توطيد العلاقات بين عناصر المجتمع بالشرق الأوسط .
