Dans le cadre de la 9e Académie Hiératique qui réunit des spécialistes de cette écriture à l’Ifao du 28 septembre au 2 octobre, une conférence est offerte au public. Elle sera donnée par Barbara Lüscher (universités de Bâle et Zurich), lundi 29 septembre à 18h00. Elle sera intitulée : « Tiny fragment – Big surprise: News from the Valley of the Kings ».

La conférence est publique et ouverte à tous dans la limite des places disponibles dans la salle de conférence de l’Ifao.

Abstract

This lecture presents a small linen fragment found during excavations conducted by the University of Basel Kings' Valley Project, which sheds new light on evidence of the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead in the Valley of the Kings.

The mentioned project, led by Prof. Susanne Bickel, is one of the few foreign research teams to have an excavation concession in the Theban royal necropolis. However, it is not dedicated to the decorated royal tombs, but is investigating a series of non-royal, undecorated tombs that have so far received little attention. In 2012, the team was rewarded with the discovery of KV 64, a new tomb in the Valley of the Kings. The object presented here is just one of many surprises that this (not only) royal necropolis still has in store for Egyptology.

Barbara Lüscher is a Swiss Egyptologist based at Basel university and a lecturer at the University of Zurich for the last 25 years. She has studied Egyptology, Hittitology and Comparative Religions. After her doctorate under Erik Hornung, she worked in the Valley of the Kings and contributed in Hornung’s edition of the Amduat. She was also a co-founder of the Misr Project (= Mission Siptah-Ramses X), which aimed to publish the royal tombs of Ramses X and Siptah. Her research focuses mainly on religious texts, particularly the Book of the Dead, its history, and its modern reception. Since 2006, alongside numerous monographs in this field, she has also co-founded the ’Totenbuchtexte’ series together with her colleague Günther Lapp. This is a new synoptic edition of the Book of the Dead texts from New Kingdom sources. So far 13 volumes have been released, with more to come in the future.

Les conférences de l’Ifao

Les conférences de l'Ifao ont pour objectif la transmission des résultats des recherches en cours ou très récentes, par des chercheurs confirmés. Y sont conviés essentiellement les chercheurs impliqués dans les différentes opérations scientifiques de l'Ifao lors de leur passage par l'Institut. ِElles sont également parfois le lieu de présentation d'ouvrages récemment parus à l'Ifao par leurs autheurs. Les conférences de l'Ifao ont lieu traditionnellement les mercredis aprés-midis, en français ou en anglais.

IFAO Lectures series aim to transmit the results of current or very recent research by confirmed researchers. They are mainly animated by researchers involved in IFAO's various scientific programs and projects during their stay at the Institute. They are also sometimes the occasion for presentations, by their authors, of books recently published by the IFAO.

IFAO Lectures series are traditionally held on Wednesday afternoons, in French or English.
