Abstract

New archaeological evidences for Egypt´s interests in the Levant during the Middle Bronze Age

New excavations as well as the reassessment of Egyptian and Egyptianizing material stored in museums in the Levant allows us to see the relationships between Egypt and its northern neighbours during the Middle Bronze Age in a new light. The politics and occasional interventions by the 12th dynasty in this region left their mark on the trade flow between the various regions along the Eastern Mediterranean coast and Egypt during the first half of the 2nd millennium BC. Until recently only the imports from the Near East into Egypt were known, whilst our archaeological knowledge of Egyptian exports were restricted to stone vessels and small finds. However, in the recent years more and more evidence for direct trade between these two regions came to light in the form of exported Egyptian pottery as evidence for the exchange of all kinds of commodities.

IFAO Lectures series aim to transmit the results of current or very recent research by confirmed researchers. They are mainly animated by researchers involved in IFAO's various scientific programs and projects during their stay at the Institute. They are also sometimes the occasion for presentations, by their authors, of books recently published by the IFAO.

IFAO Lectures series are traditionally held on Wednesdays at 6 p.m., in French or English.
