Lithic Industries In Ancient Egypt From The Neolithic And Dynastic Periods
Clara Jeuthe, Chercheur associé à l'Ifao
Lithic tools, either flint implements or other ground stone tools, play a major role in the Ancient Egyptian economic system. However, although studies on lithic industries have increased significantly during recent decades, our knowledge remains limited, in particular with regard to the quarries, strategies of selection and distribution as well as the different levels of state versus local supply chains.
Hence, this study day, which forms part of the IFAO project “Les industries du silex en Égypte pharaonique”, aims to discuss the up-to-date research concerning the selection of raw material and current investigations of quarries, as well as a range of scientific analyses conducted on stone materials in recent years.
The study day will include a Visit of the Laboratory of the Ifao.
Attendance is only possible by invitation. In case of interest, please contact cjeuthe@ifao.egnet.net
