• Group of trailed/marvered glasses - most outstanding, as far as quantity and variety of forms among glasses found in the Old City of Jerusalem and dated from Umayyead to the beginning of the Mamluk Period:
– trailing mainly in opaque white glass, some of them - black;
– classified by base colour: purple glass (translucent or opaque) - the most numerous; translucent blue glass; opaque red glass, yellow (amber) glass;
– lumps of raw glass and several wasters (group of the purple glass).
• Jerusalem as a center of purple trailed glass production in Islamic times - peak of production probably during the 11th to early 13th century.
• Pilgrims coming from Europe to Jerusalem as potential clients interested in glassware, especially in small and luxury items.
• Written sources: Al-Muqaddasī (late 10th century).
