• Glass objects from Shanga - some characteristics:
– most of the glass fragments are from contexts dated c. A.D. 1000-1120;
– prevailing shape: bowl.
• Examples of glass objects from Shanga:
– bowl-shaped lamps with handles (fig. 242);
– fragment of flask with marvered trails (fig. 241 g);
– sherd of green glass with thin marvered trail of white and red glass, probably 13th century A.D. (fig. 244 e);
– base of octagonal, mould-blown flask; black glass (fig. 243 a);
– fragments of flasks and bowls (?) with mould-blown patterns (fig. 243 b-l);
– fragments of flasks or bottles with engraved decoration (fig. 244 a-c);
– fragment of pale green glass with traces of gilded decoration (fig. 244 d);
– scraper from re-used glass: sharp edge formed by pressure flaking (fig. 244 f).
