• Examples of glass objects from excavations at Hippos:
– Public building HLC, identified as ‘xenodocheion’; used between the late 6th or early 7th centuries and the end of the 7th - beginning of the 8th centuries:
- fragments of wine glasses and/or goblets (fig. 2B : 11-25),
- fragments of bottles (fig. 2B : 1-10),
- fragments of table vessels: plates, dishes, bowls (fig. 2B : 26-30),
- fragments of lamps:
hemispherical bowls with either hollow or solid stems (fig. 2B : 32-38),
bowl with three handles (fig. 2B : 31),
- fragments of bracelets (fig. 2B : 39-41).
- comparative studies of glass and pottery material found in the HLC building.
– The North-West Church, built at the end of the 5th or first half of the 6th century - destroyed by the earthquake in 749 A.D.:
- fragments of lamps as the most common category of glass finds:
hemispherical lamps bowls with hollow stem (fig. 4 : 13-14, 26 ; fig. 5 : 7, 13, 26-28),
lamps bowls with three handles (fig. 4 : 27 ; fig. 5 : 14-15, 29-30, 45-49),
two circular bronze ‘polykandela’ (fig. 8),
- small bottle, intact: contained tiny fragments of bones, apparently relics of a martyr or saint (fig. 4 : 1),
- drinking glass with mould-blown decoration (net pattern), probably liturgical chalice (fig. 9),
- fragments of kohl tubes (fig. 4 : 18-19),
- fragments of drinking glass (fig. 7 : 6-7, 10, 16),
- fragments of flasks and bottles (fig. 7 : 1-5, 8-9, 11-12).
• Question with regard to distribution of lamps and other glass objects in the North-West Church.
