•Examples of byzantine glass painted with silver stain:
– Fragment of plate or bowl: “Hunting scene” (10th century).
– Bracelet: representation of birds (10th-13th century).

• Chemical analyses: Na2O, MgO, Al2O3, SiO2, K2O, CaO, SO3, Cl, TiO2, MnO, Fe2O3, CoO, CuO, ZnO.

• Stained glasses (silver and copper compounds):
– the earliest datable example is a fragmentary bowl from Fusṭāṭ (771-772);
– silver stain first appears in western Europe windows in the late 13th - or early 14th-century.
