– literary sources: Hugeburc, “Life of St Willibald” (c. 780); Nāṣir-i Khusraw (c. 1050); al-Qazwīnī (d. 1283); Al-Maqrīzī (1364-1442); account of Abbot Suger of St Denis (early 12th century); inventory of the belongings of a Bavarian knight (14th century);
– iconography : illustration in a manuscript of the “Maqāmāt” of al-Ḥarīrī (1323) - fig. 16.3;
– preserved cases and bags.
