La date de découverte est fournie par Legrain:1909, 40. D’après PM II2, cette statue, (Legrain:1909 remarque que « Cette statue n’existe plus au Musée ») est passée en vente à New York en janvier 1922, puis à Sotheby en juillet 1939. Une première notice au JE indique: « Le n° CG 42174 est porté comme disparu dans la correspondance de Legrain avec le Dir. Gal., août 1909 (photo à l’appui) ». Plus tard a été ajouté: « Sold at Sotheby’s in may 1939 from Hearst Coll. seen in America. File 29-2/401. Letter dd.7.10.43 ».
