Steindorff:1946 donne: “From the Karnak Cachette, although said to be from Qena”.
CLES 685 porte cette remarque de Bothmer: “Not among my Cairo D notes, but because of the name (Ššnḳ) I may not have copied the JE entry”. Nous n’avons trouvé aucune statue disparue d’un tel Sheshonq dans la période du JE correspondante. Il faut donc supposer, si elle provient bien de la Cachette ce qui est très vraisemblable, qu’elle a été acquise à Karnak et revendue à/par un antiquaire de Qena.
À ce sujet, on verra la lettre de Legrain à Maspero du 2 mai 1904:
“J’apprends à l’instant que deux Coptes de Keneh, Todros et Dérias (?) de Keneh arriveront ce soir pour exciter à de nouveaux vols. Je vais prévenir le mamour et faire coffrer mes deux gaillards dans l’exercice de leurs fonctions.” (Ms. 4027, f° 338)
La chose fut peut-être moins facile que prévue...
