De façon similaire à ce qui se passait dans le reste des territoires soumis à l’Empire ­ottoman, dans les principales villes égyptiennes, tout au long du XIX^e siècle, des intellectuels ont ­circulé, constitué des groupes et des courants de pensée inspirés par le laïcisme, la libre‑pensée, ­l’anticléricalisme, le scepticisme matérialiste et l’athéisme. Dans cet article, je me concentrerai sur la reconstruction historique de ces mouvements et courants de pensée à l’intérieur de la colonie italienne d’Égypte avant la Première Guerre mondiale. Ce cas spécifique nous permettra d’observer, avec une perspective totalement inédite, certains enjeux sociaux, politiques et culturels qui ont affecté le microcosme italien à l’intérieur des dynamiques propres à un territoire colonisé.

Like the other territories under the Ottoman Empire, in the main Egyptian cities ­throughout the nineteenth century, intellectuals, groups and currents of thought inspired by secularism, free‑thinking, anticlericalism, materialistic scepticism and atheism were spreading. In this ­article, I will focus on the historical reconstruction of these movements and currents of thought within the Italian colony of Egypt before the First World War. This specific case will therefore allow us to observe, with a totally new perspective, some social, political and cultural issues that affected the Italian microcosm within the dynamics of a colonized territory.

على غرار ما كان يجري في باقي الأقاليم الخاضعة للإمبراطورية العثمانية، في المدن المصرية الرئيسية، على امتداد القرن التاسع عشر، انتشر المثقفون وأسسوا مجموعات وتيارات فكرية مستوحاة من العلمانية وحرية التفكير ومعاداة رجال الدين والارتياب المادي والإلحاد. وفي هذا المقال سوف أركز على إعادة البناء التاريخي لهذه الحركات والتيارات الفكرية داخل الجالية الإيطالية المقيمة في مصر قبل الحرب العالمية الأولى. وسوف تسمح لنا الحالة المحددة بملاحظة، بمنظور جديد تمامًا، بعض القضايا الاجتماعية والسياسية والثقافية التي أثَّرت على العالم الإيطالي المصغر في نطاق الديناميكيات الخاصة بإقليم مستَعْمَر.
