• Archaeological context: Room IX at the Petra church. Glass cakes found together with heaps of broken glass and tesserae.

• The issue of the origin of this unit:
– remains of tesserae production (?),
– products of re-melting broken vessel glass (?).

• Glass cakes:
– made by pouring glass on the floor or into a mould;
– shape: rectangular with brick-like form, disk-like form or oval;
– maximum length recorded: 25.7 cm, weight: 1710 gram;
– complete cake would have weighed more than 2 kg (estimation);
– colours: purple, green, blue, white, pink.

• Glass tesserae:
– used for the wall and floor mosaics in the church;
– average weight: 1.5 gram;
– colours: green-blue, blue-green, blue, yellow, purple, black, white, red, ochre, of transparent glass covered with a sheet of gold.

• Other glass objects:
– fragments of window glass;
– fragments of lamps:
- with solid-stemmed bases,
- with handles,
- with wick holders;
– tableware:
- fragments of bowls,
- fragments of beakers.

• Chemical analyses: P2O5, CaO.

• No workshop or kiln was found during the excavation.
