Des contrats de vente ou de location de mobilier d’installations balnéaires sont enregistrés, parmi d’autres transactions, devant les cadis des villes de Damas, Alep et Hama. Dans ces actes officiels, un inventaire plus ou moins détaillé est établi, et la valeur de chacun des objets est parfois estimée en présence d’experts : des tenanciers de bain. Cette étude se propose, à partir d’une trentaine de documents enregistrés à Damas, d’une vingtaine à Alep et de cinq à Hama, de dresser un inventaire de tous les ustensiles mentionnés nécessaires au fonctionnement du bain. Ainsi que de relever la variété des ustensiles, les différences dans leurs qualités et fonctions, ainsi que les variations régionales au XVIIIe siècle. Enfin, d’après un échantillon malheureusement réduit de contrats qui proposent les données chiffrées les plus complètes, on tentera d’apprécier le poids des divers « postes » : linge, mobilier, combustible, dans le capital investi.

Under the supervision of qadis of the three cities under study (Damascus, Aleppo and Hama) were established and registered, among other transactions, contracts for the sale and rent of furniture of the hammams. In these official acts is established a more or less detailed inventory of the objects owned by these establishments, and their value is sometimes assessed in the presence of experts and bath keepers. Based on 30 documents registered in Damascus, 20 in Aleppo, and 5 in Hama, this paper aims at making a complete inventory of all the objects required for operating the hammam; it addresses the variety of utensils, differences in their qualities and functions and possible regional variations in the 18th century. Finally, analysing the unfortunately limited number of contracts that offer the most comprehensive financial data, it tries to assess the financial burden of the various budget headings, such as linens, furniture, fuel, in the capital invested.
