Durant le mois de Paophi et de Pakhons, la nécropole de Chedbeg était le théâtre de grandes fêtes processionnelles. Haroëris/Chou, dieu vénéré dans le temple de Kom Ombo, se déplaçait pour y visiter la tombe de son fils Sobek/Geb. Le culte funéraire était non seulement destiné à Sobek, mais également à Osiris et Rê auxquels Sobek était identifié. La présence d’Osiris permettait d’identifier Haroëris à Harendotes, tandis que l’apparition de Rê permettait de mettre en scène Hathor/Isis en tant qu’exécutrice du culte décadaire pour son père/frère. La procession d’Haroëris vers Chedbeg ne pouvait pas être organisée selon un rythme décadaire. C’est la raison pour laquelle les prêtres de Kom Ombo ont créé à l’intérieur du temple une nécropole de substitution, où le rituel funéraire en faveur de Sobek pouvait néanmoins avoir lieu tous les dix jours. La décoration de trois chapelles dans le coin sud-est du temple témoigne de ce rituel, tandis qu’une série de scènes d’offrandes retracent le trajet suivi par Haroëris à l’intérieur du temple pour atteindre « la nécropole ».

During the months of Paophi and Pakhons, the necropolis of Shedbeg saw the arrival of great processional festivities. Haroeris/Shu, the god venerated in the temple of Kom Ombo, moved there to visit the tomb of his son Sobek/Geb. The funerary cult was not only dedicated to Sobek, but also to Osiris and Re, to whom Sobek was identified. The presence of Osiris made it possible to identify Haroeris to Harendotes while the appearance of Re made it possible to include Hathor/Isis, executing the “culte décadaire” for her father/brother. However, it was impossible for the procession of Haroeris to Shedbeg to be organised every ten days. Therefore it is for this reason that the priests of Kom Ombo created a substitute necropolis inside their temple where the ritual for Sobek could still be executed this frequently. The decoration of three chapels in the south eastern corner of the temple testifies to the occurrence of this ritual, while a sequence of offering scenes traces the road followed by Haroeris inside the temple to reach the “necropolis”.
