L'étude des milliers de tessons de céramique qui jonchaient les sols stratifiés inclus dans le périmètre pourtant très limité du Trésor de Thoutmosis Iᵉʳ à Karnak-Nord et de ses environs immédiats permet de suivre l'évolution de la céramique indigène dans la partie méridionale de l'Égypte depuis le commencement du Moyen Empire jusqu'à l'époque romaine.

Elle révèle aussi l'étendue des contacts qu'avait la région thébaine avec les régions et les pays voisins depuis le Soudan au sud jusqu'aux régions limitrophes de la Méditerranée, l'Afrique du Nord, l'Italie, la Grande Grèce et la Palestine en passant par les oasis du désert Occidental égyptien.

Study of the thousands of potsherds recovered during the excavation of the various strata included within the perimeter of the Treasury of Thutmosis I at Karnak-North and its immediate environs allows us to trace the evolution of the indigenous ceramic production of Upper Egypt from the beginning of the Middle Kingdom until Roman times.

It reveals also the extent of the contacts existing during that period between the Theban region and its neighbours: Nubia and the Sudan to the south extending northwards via the oases of the Western desert to the countries surrounding the Mediterranean: North Africa, Italy, Greece together with the Aegean Islands and Palestine.
