La première date de découverte est fournie par Legrain:1906, 42. Elle correspond à la découverte du premier fragment comme l'indique JdF 1903-1904, 36 : 4 Février. (…) « Une statue d'Amenothès II agenouillé. L'avant des bras manquent(sic). Le reste même le visage et le nez est intact. (…) Le 20 [février] on retrouve les avant-bras et la table d'offrande (…) ». L’objet porte aujourd'hui distinctement le numéro et la marque "Karnak 1904 14" (jaune) et, presque illisible, 36647 (noir).
D’après Van Siclen III:1991, cette statue aurait appartenu à un groupe composé de trois éléments (statue divine, socle et statue royale) tel qu’il est représenté dans la tombe de Sennefer (TT 96). Comparer au groupe d’Horemheb et Atoum de la cachette de Louqsor (M. el-Saghir, Das Statuenversteck im Luxortempel, SDAIK 26, 1992).
Possible représentation de cette statue dans le décors de la TT 96 (cf. Van Siclen III:1991)
